Don't Just Go On A Diet and Exercise
Transform Your Life Forever
If 30 day extreme, south beach, ultra diet and exercise plans worked everyone would be skinny.
Take a minute and count all the diets you've ever gone on, or that your friends have gone on, or that your family have gone on. It doesn't have to be perfect just ball park it.
Got a number? Great!
Now think about the number of people you know who have lost weight, gotten in shape and stayed that way for a 6 months. My guess is that you can count that second group on two hands or less. Now how many people have stayed that way for a year? two years? five? ten? Do you have any fingers left?

You may be wondering why it's like this. We all know exercise is good for us and being overweight endagers our health, but people can't seem to get in shape and stay that way. Why?

The Lies
If 30, 60, or 90 day crazy extreme diet and exercise plans worked everyone would look like a fitness model..
The fitness industry is lying to you and they are making a ton of money doing it. Most fitness gurus love working out and they always have. They are what some of us in the industry call fitness converts. They define success as being on the cover of men's health, having 6 pack abs, and being able to bench press a small country.

They define success based on what the the media thinks being fit is. If you 'fit' that model your in shape. You are literally in the shape of a fitness model.
But what if your very human body doesn't 'fit' in that super human model? You are out. Out of shape, out of the 'norm', out of the running for a better life, better mate, and a better everything.
I used to define success that way too. I thought I needed to have a private jet, bathe in axe body deodorant, have six pack abs, and date super models.
But it didn't make me workout more or get a better job it just made me miserable. I thought I was a failure. So I gave up.
The Rebel
I rejected societies game because I couldn't win. I am a balding 5' 4" smart ass with more brains than good looks, more heart than brute force, and I like talking about my feelings. I'm hardly the image of what the fitness industry sells on the cover of so many magazines
So I became a cliche rebel. I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day. I was stoned all the time and I didn't really do anything with my life. Because if I couldn't win I didn't want to play.

That was until I discovered mindfulness. Mindfulness changed everything about me.
Mindfulness Transformed My Life
Before I discovered mindfulness I was working in the music business running a small concert venue. And one day I caught my boss stealing. I didn't know what to do. It was wrong, but I needed this job. Eventually I decided to confront her.
I knew I risked losing my job, but I felt like I had to maintain my integrity. I realized that I had been letting myself slide into a grey zone in life. And I didn't want to be there anymore.
Sure enough a month later I lost my job. I didn't know where to turn. I felt lost, hopeless, and depressed
The Monastery
That's when I met this guy named Lowell. I was hanging out at party when I saw this yougn guy all calm and peaceful and I couldn't figure it out. He was 5 years younger than me, but nothing seemed to phase him. He seemed at peace and happy in a way I have never known.
I started talking to him and learned that he had just recently left a Zen Monastery where he had been living for several months. Over the course of the conversation I learned about his path and I was hooked. I wanted to try it out. At that point I was willing to try anything.
He invited me to come and start sitting with a local zen group. So the next week I sat down for my first formal session of zazen or seated meditation. I loved and hated it. I realized how messy my mind was, but I also realized that this could actually help.
Unlike to pot or cigs or video games this didn't just cover over my worries, stress, and critical thoughts. It helped me actually deal with them.
I started sitting regularly and noticed an immediate change. And since I had no job prospects I decided maybe I would go to the monastery for a month. While I tried to figure out what to do next.
The monastery was rigorous but rewarding. We woke everyday at 3:50am meditated for 2 hours, ate in a silent formal ceremonial way, worked quietly, did several chanting services, and ended each day with another 2 hours of meditation.
In addition one week out of every month we sat sesshin. Which is a long silent retreat, that involves 8 hours of daily sitting, complete silence, and a daily interview with a teacher.
Despite the tough schedule I knew I needed to stay. One month turned into two, then into six, and before long I had been living there for over 2 years.
The monastery taught me a lot. It taught me about discipline, focus, and determination. I came to see that the only thing standing between me and my ability to live a fulfilled balanced life was my ability to look deeply into my own mind.
I learned the skills to form lasting habits, to bring more peace into my life, and to be mindful in the midst of everyday activities.
I also started exercising again at the monastery. I had been in great shape in high school. I wreslted varsity and had even placed at the state tournament in my senior year. But I hadn't done much since.
When I quit smoking I put on 5 - 10 pounds and I started to realize that I couldn't just coast like I had been doing for most of my twenties.
As got back into shape I started to see a natural link between movement and my ability to be mindful. Meditation helped me get into shape and exercise helped calm and brighten my mind.
When I left the monastery I knew that I had to keep working the blend these lessons into my life and when I could share them with others.
Your Crazy
Now I know what you are thinking. That's great, but I can't go live at a monastery. The thought of waking up at 3:50 in the morning to meditate sounds about just as much fun as riding a bicycle without a seat. Besides I have bills, kids, a car payment, and responsibilities.
That's exactly why I started MindFitMove. To show people you don't have to move to a monastery to change your life. You can find balance using the power of mindfulness and movement no matter what kind of life you lead.
You could certainly go live the monastery and learn about a lot of what I share in my blog, my books, my talks, and in my training and coaching sessions. In fact you would learn even more.
But I fully realize now as I did then that the monastery is not for everyone. The schedule is challenging, the setting is remote, and the creature comforts are minimal.
That's why I've created a system that can help you learn these same skills in a simple way and practical way. What amazing is that these skill support each other. As you learn to be more mindful you'll find exercise takes on a whole new dimension and getting into shapes offers an easy gateway to calming your mind.
Too Woo Woo
Not into Buddhism? Now a problem. Though my methods and techniques are highly informed by a Buddhist perspective they aren't inherently Buddhist. I'm not a Zen Master, nor would I claim to be.
These tools work no matter what your religious or spiritual outlook is. Similar to programs like Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, I take just the tools I learned at the monastery and leave the rest.
These techniques can be found in any wisdom tradition and they are the same techniques that people have used to change their lives for thousands of years.
But maybe your skepitcal that these ancient techniques can really work in these modern times. Well that's what I thought too, until I met my first client, Cibyl
The Preschool Warrior
Once I left the monastery I struggled for a while to find my path. I tried being a preschool teacher, but I found there is a limit to the number of crafts I can do in a 6 month period.
That's when my friend Cibyl suggested I try personal training. I had been training for endurance races and had completed several including a century bike ride and a olympic triathlon (I placed 2nd in my age group).
I had learned again and again how blending mindfulness and movement supported my life and my body. So I started working with her and saw first hand that these techniques could help anyone change their life.
In a few month Cibyl went from a shy preschool teacher who was basically sedentary to completing her first half marathon, taking charge of her life, and starting her own business.
What made this possible is that as she strengthened her body she strengthened her mind. He physical fitness made her feel more confident, more passionate, and more alive.
And the reverse was true as well. As she strengthened her mind she became more about to deal with the set backs that come when you try to lose weight and get into shape.
She could forgive herself for simple slip ups. She found better ways to deal with stress. She learned to enjoy her food more while eating less of it.
Here is what she had to say about working with me:
And one person I have to seriously thank is Mr. Gentoku who so deeply jumpstarted my new fitness skills. His searching and blossoming and exploration of how he "fits' in the Dharma, want he feels called to bring forward, where his deep joy lies, met a very deep need for me and at a very important juncture. He's on his way to be a fantastic personal fitness trainer and I can't help but feel that he would NOT be on this beautifull Bodhisattva path without the time he spent at the monastery!!

Amazing Transformation
Her transformation amazed me as much as it did her. I realized again that you don't have to live at a monastery or lift a ton of weights to change your life. When you apply the simple techniques of mindfulness and practical fitness amazing things are possible.
But what if you have tried everything in the past and failed. What if you've given up hope that anything will work ever. How is MindFitMove different?
What makes Mindfulness Based Fitness different than other programs is that it uses the synergy of transformation in one area of your life to fuel change in every other aspect of your life.
Most diet and exercise programs only treat the symptoms of imbalance. They focus only on external factors. They tell you what to eat and what to do, but they don't look at why you are eating or why you veg out in front of the boob tube all night.
One way to think about it is to imagine a beat up run down sports car. Now I can go to a body shop and get them to pimp my ride. They can give me new wheels, new rims, a new paint job, and new chrome everything, but inside the engine will still be a clunker.
But Mindfulness Based Fitness doesn't focus on just the externals. It focuses on how you change your life from the bottom up. It does the body work and the engine work at the same time.
Training the Mind to Train the Body
At MindFitMove I don't just train your body, I help you train your mind.
I help you learn the one skill that can change everything about your life.
I help people discover their own wisdom and their own path to a balanced life. It's not a box of the shelf way of doing things. It's not a one size fits all approach. My approach helps you define your own success.
It frees you from the traditional model of fitness and harnesses the power of mindfulness and movement to help you change your life in a fundamental way.
This plan is only for people who are really serious about changing how they live their lives. If you are looking for a quick fix, or a fast diet, you better keep moving. I don't promise fast results I promise real results.
The reason I can do this is that I didn't invent the techniques. These are techniques that monks, gurus, sages, and wise men have used for thousands of years. All I've done is translated these ideas into a simple system that you can use in your everyday life without having to take a vow of celibacy.
It's not as potent as those techniques, but it is more accesible and doable. But it only works if you are ready for a total life transformation. The step are small and simple but they build up over time and can create radical change in your life.

Your transformation begins right here right now.
